ok i am now on delicious thing HAVENT A CLUE HOW TO BOOKMARK don't understand it :( but my name is sharina.taylor so add me please it's all one word.

I have done plenty of reading i think my head may EXPLODE!!! it's exciting and stressful at the same time!

the youth offending project wasnt that much of a success :( but hey the project must still go on :D i have started writing and so far jus over 1000 words :) only 11,000 to go hahahaha wish me luck think im going to need it.

but please do help me with delicious site... also want to know if there are any site or programmes i can but use to input my data and create graphs etc?

I hope everyone's personal research projects are going well, just making a mental note for myself of how far i am into my project... i started questionnaires but the more information i collected and the more data i gathered I realised that, i needed to changed my question in order to get the answers i needed... interviews are now taking place...August a project starts with young offenders i can't wait!!!

I hope all is going well with your personal reseach projects, i have changed my project at least twice as the more i reserch the more i find i can narrow my project down for a more accurate result, sorry to all for not posting anything on my blog for a while, everything is all on paper at the moment, however i have been following everyone elses blogs, and have filled out some great surveys.
i have so much planning done now it's jus formating it all into proposal form! as i have changed my "thesis" more than once ive had to do alot more research and "reading" (and we all know how long that takes in my case)however slowly but surly getting there, wish me luck guys!

New Module!!!

Hmmm what can i say about his new Module??? It still has not quite sunk in what it is im actually meant to be doing!!! but i guess it will all become much clearer when i pic up tho BOOKS and READ! also need to go back through the handbook and HIGHLIGHT and ANNOTATE important areas... so HOPFULLY when i have done that i can post again and be accurate, i WILL know WHAT I'M DOING!!!

Creative and Digital Media Apprenticeships

This is for anyone who is Intrested! or knows of any young people that would be intrested in taking part, in this creative event!!!

Music4Good is proud to announce a brand new creative apprenticeship in creative and digital media for 2010. The Livity Apprenticeships are offering opportunities in TV, film, radio, games, and digital sectors (communication, technology, design etc).

So……Are you interested in social media? Would like to shoot your own film or TV series? Do you live on You Tube and know how to create video, music and images to share with your friends?

Well, we’re now accepting applications for the next round of Creative and Digital Media apprenticeships, starting in April 2010.

There is a short window of opportunity of four weeks starting today (11th Jan 2010), and once we have enough suitable candidates the window will close. So urgency is encouraged.


The criteria:
• 18-24 years-old
• Non-graduate
• Preferably not in education, employment or training
• Able to work a full time, 9 month apprenticeships from April 2010
• Positive, outgoing attitude with good communication skills
• A demonstratable passion for digital and creative media (TV, film, online, games, animation)
• A knowledge of any of the above sectors is an advantage

• Living in or able to commute to London, UK

The Livity Apprenticeships provides ACCREDITED, MANAGED and PAID apprenticeship at established Creative and Digital companies in London. Successful candidates will secure an apprenticeship working in TV or film production, digital communications, advertising, mobile technology, social networking, digital design etc.

It is important to note that there are NO acting opportunities within the apprenticeship.

Positive Youth Development through School Project: A School-Based Intervention
Developing drama programs to facilitate positive youth development is especially important in communities experiencing social exclusion to allow youth’s the opportunity to develop life skills in preparation for adulthood. Positive youth development is a broad notion that “includes the development of diverse competencies that can help a young person in sport, in their current life and/or in their future” (Gould & Carson, 2008, p. 59). Many studies have shown that sport, drama and dance experiences are an ideal setting to promote positive youth development as they can result in better educational attainments; communication with family and peers and risk avoidance (Conroy & Coatsworth, 2006; Carruthers, 2006). Sport experiences also foster social success, positive peer relationships and life skills such as leadership, teamwork and goal setting (Fraser-Thomas, Cote & Deakin, 2005; Danish, Forneris & Wallace, 2005).
Youth culture involves social phenomena such as music, clothing, hair styles, films and magazines. Early conceptualisations of youth culture tended to focus on young people as a problem group within society. Subsequently, the concept of subculture, which refers to groups within broader culture that maintains some type of distinctive behaviours, values, goals, was initially associated with delinquent or deviant youth. As Blackman (2005) writes, ‘one interesting aspects of subcultures are the way in which they contrast with the dominant norms and values of society (p.2) (Girginov, V, 2008). These programs are directed at socially excluded or disadvantaged youths to re- engage them in school, improve attendance rates and develop life skills.
The aims of teaching youths at risk are to increase inclusion, develop life skills and to improve attitude and commitment to education. In order to achieve these aims specific outcomes will be set. Intended outcomes are for selected students approximately for 15- 20 youths, these programmes normally last for twenty five hours each week over a period of twelve weeks.
As I have been researching youths at risk and what Become A Star does for young teenagers I think that there needs to be more government funding for projects like this, I agree that these particular projects rehabilitate youths in a good way and gives them an understanding of what it means to take responsibility of themselves and others around them. These schemes serve a lot of purpose, value and relevance and the teaching strategies that are put into place are just what the youths need to make sure they are progressing and getting the help that they seek. I would like to get more involved and work with young people in the community teaching them how to express their emotions through drama, dance & sport as I know it will give them a well deserved chance to be the best that they can be in our society. These projects with the right funding and government support can be very effective and successful. I feel that these schemes need to be put into more communities. The youth of today are always being undermined and portrayed in a bad light, society needs to have more faith in the youth and people need to try and understand that the youth is the future. It is essential that we enable young people to see themselves as participants in one of the most exciting eras in history, and to have a sense of purpose in relation to it (Nelson, Rockefeller, 2009) (Katz, N, 2005).

Become a Star will collaborate with the local youth offending service team to create an intensive project that aims to re- engage and inspire young people through the medium of drama.
The young people will be aged 13-19 years of age they will be “NEET” meaning Not in Education, Employment or Training.
Become a Star will work with all out participants over the course of three months, out of the project will be a two day performance, which will be the very own work of all the young people who attended, allowing them to perform at Arts Depots intimate studio theatre before friends and family and our special guests who will also receive an invite.
‘BAS’ feel like working together as a professional company will have a positive effect on the young people life skills, such as the importants of being on time when working as a collective team, being focused, having determination to be creative, trust other people they’re working with as it may well be the first time meeting each other, and hopefully by performing they will defiantly be able to collaborate and celebrate their hard working achievements.
‘BAS’ have previously carried out a similar project last year called ignition which was a great success, we had 18 young people who participated and enjoyed themselves immensely, out of this project they young people performed in front of an audience of 70 people, this performance was filmed later edited and turned into a DVD for the young people to keep a copy of their good hard work.
BAS interviewed six young people during the rehearsal process and after the final production performance; here are some of the positive comments feedback to us from the young people who took part in this project.

THE PLAY:

'The Fever Chart' tells three distinct but thematically related stories which explore the possibility of humanity in the most inhumane situations. In settings ranging from a zoo in Rafah, Palestine ('A State of Innocence') to a hospital in Tel Aviv ('Between This Breath and You') to a yard in Iraq ('The Retreating World') the play draws us into a world of war and high emotions.



The writer explores political tensions by grounding them in the human issues of love, life and death moving us from the specific to the universal. The show has run already and we are looking for one actor to complete the cast

This week i'll be working with the young people, at Barnet Burnt Oak Lesuire centre, to help them create a short film lasting four minutes, which will be shown in a couple months at the Phoniex cinemar in east finchely.
